The association of Friends of the Beethovenfest Bonn, known as Bürger für Beethoven, has organized a major programme for schools under the name of: Beethoven Bonnensis.

In concerts, musical workshops and conversations with artists, Bonn’s school students are integrated into the festival and brought a little bit nearer to classical music.
In co-operation with the Beethovenfest, workshops are arranged where the students have the chance to work together musically with participating artists or to get to know them in conversation. How does a composer think, what sort of character is hidden behind a person who invents music – all these questions can be answered by the students in direct encounters with the performers.
School students from Bonn can meet young musicians from other cultures in the context of the Internationales Begegnungsfest or International Encounter Festival.
In addition, the concert series Junge Bühne (Young Stage) offers talented students the unique chance of displaying their skills in the context of a major festival.
One special event is the annual Opening Festival of the Beethovenfest Bonn. For a whole day, downtown Bonn rings to the sound of instruments being played by Bonn’s school students young and old on numerous stages.

Since 2004, the number of young people participating has risen constantly. While 150 took part in the Opening Festival in 2004, by 2007 this figure had increased to 700.
All in all, Beethoven Bonnensis projects in 2007 involved nearly 2,000 students – more than twice as many as in 2004 when the idea was first implemented.
