Grand Finale
Martin Grubinger is not only an artist who constantly draws attention to himself with idiosyncratic programmes, but a frequent and popular guest at the Beethovenfest Bonn. With "Ghanaia II" he is presenting a composition which, with its highly virtuoso rhythms, has far more to offer as a counterweight to the following work than just African rum impressions. The grand finale not just to the Beethoven symphony cycle but to the whole estival is Beethoven's Ninth, the work with which the composer not only crowned his symphonic oeuvre, but set a new course for the symphony, breaking the mould of the genre with the final chorale.
