The work of Bonn’s CocoonDance Company is at once sensual and abstract, physical and philosophical. The company experiments with various perspectives of narration and perception, upsetting our relations to space and time, to ourselves and our bodies. Now Rafaële Giovanola (choreographer) and Jörg Ritzenhoff (composer) have chosen Beethoven’s Piano Trio in D major, op. 70, no. 1 – the so-called ‘Ghost Trio’ – as a point of departure for their new piece. Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s late television play ‘Ghost Trio’, which itself uses fragments from Beethoven’s slow movement, they weave a playful tapestry of reality and imagination, dissolution and oblivion.
