Chamber ensembles from Germany's orchestras develop programmes outside their daily duties and discover composers otherwise overlooked by the culture industry. Ensemble Più has made the classical oboe quartet the core of its repertoire. It has released première recordings of the quartets by Lois Massonneau, a contemporary of Beethoven. Now they will present one of them in a Beethovenfest recital. It will be joined by early Beethoven works arranged for two oboes and English horn. Schubert's String Trio, where the classical influences begin to give way to 'genuine Schubert', and, as a contrast, a world première by Frank Zabel that exchanges the incisive oboe sound for the pastoral English horn.
