Bedazzled by history

François Leleux (Oboe)
Aurora Orchestra
Nicholas Collon (Conductor)

Brett Dean:
"Testament" for orchestra (Australia)

Richard Strauss:
Concerto in D major for oboe and small orchestra, AV 144 (1945)

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Symphony No. 41 in C major KV 551 (»Jupiter«)

The Aurora Orchestra is a young British chamber orchestra that has attracted a loyal following for 11 years with its unconventional ideas. Most recently it caused a sensation at the London Proms. The orchestra‘s appearance at the Beethovenfest will be no less special. Principal conductor Nicholas Collon will conduct three works, each with a storied history. The Australian Brett Dean projects himself into the sounds that Beethoven could no longer hear when he wrote his ‘Heiligenstadt Testament’ – the scratching of his quill pen, for instance. Richard Strauss wrote his Oboe Concerto as a melancholy farewell to a vanished era of culture. And Mozart, in his ‘Jupiter’ Symphony (which the orchestra will perform from memory), synthesised the art of his predecessors. Performed by an orchestra that will bring not only themselves to their feet!
