Student Manager Project

One can always count on Dennis Russell Davies to add sparkle to the classical music scene. He tirelessly and successfully champions the music of our day. For example, he enjoys a close association with the grand master of minimal music, Philip Glass. In 2002 he persuaded Glass to take an interest in Austria’s folk music. The result was ‘Tyrol‘, a piano concerto that blends local idioms with Glass‘s typical ‘flowing‘ sound. Here Russell Davies will play the solo part, but otherwise he will conduct the works on this varied all-American programme. Besides the German première of William Bolcom, a composer highly regarded in his native USA, we will hear two works by Charles Ives, the founder of America‘s independent tradition of experimental music.
