Theresa Nelles

Theresa Nelles was given her first solo tasks during her long membership of the girls’ choir of Cologne Cathedral. In addition she spent a long time singing in a jazz band. After leaving school, she decided to study singing under Mechthild Georg at the Academy of Music and Dance in Cologne. She also studied in Rome under Rosanna Straffi at the Conservatorio Santa Cecilia; she completed master classes with Krisztina Laki, Kurt Widmer and Ingeborg Danz among others and continues to work closely with Michaela Kramer in Düsseldorf.

Work has taken the singer to venues in Germany and other countries, such as to the Festival Internazionale di Musica e Arte Sacra in Loreto and Rome, to Sicily, to Switzerland, to Israel, to the International Handel Festival in Göttingen, to the opera houses Krefeld/Mönchengladbach, Koblenz, Gelsenkirchen, to the Markgräfliches Opernhaus Bayreuth, to various festivals, to concert halls and not least to great churches, for example regularly to Cologne Cathedral.

She has worked with the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen, the Bochumer Sinfoniker, the WDR Funkhausorchester, the Gürzenichorchester of Cologne, BonnBarock, Musica Alta Ripa, Concerto Köln and many others. Theresa Nelles is also very involved in many ways in the area of New Music, for example with the harpist Andreas Mildner playing the composition by Markus Schönewolf, ‘Lieder in Bildern’, which is dedicated to them.

In 2014/15 she performed one of the leading roles in the world premiere of the opera ‘Abraham’ by Daniel Schnyder. In 2016/17 she once again sang the solo role in the new work by the composer: ‘Logos’.
