Oksana Lyniv

The Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv studied at the Lviv National Musical Academy in Bogdan Dashak’s class. In 2004 she won third prize at the Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, hosted by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, which she has conducted several times since then.

In 2005 Oksana Lyniv moved to Dresden, where she completed postgraduate studies at the University of Music Carl Maria von Weber; in 2007 she participated in a master class given by Ekkehard Klemm. Between 2007 and 2009 she was supported by the Dirigentenforum des Deutschen Musikrates; she attended master classes given by Hartmut Haenchen, Kurt Masur, Peter Gülke, Georg Fritzsch and Roland Seiffarth.   

Between 2008 and 2013 Oksana Vyniv worked at the opera house in Odessa as conductor and deputy of the principal conductor. She has held the post of musical assistant to the musical director Kirill Petrenko and the post of conductor at the Bayerische Staatsoper since the 2013/2014 season. At the start of the 2017/2018 season Oksana Lyniv will take over from Dirk Kaftan as the principal conductor at the Grazer Oper and of the Grazer Philharmonisches Orchester.

Oksana Lyniv made her debut at the Staatsoper with re-opening of Mozart’s ‘La Clemenza di Tito’, after she had already introduced herself at the Opernfestspiele 2014 with the new production of the chamber opera ‘Die Flut’ by Boris Blacher. Between 2014 and 2016 renewed productions of Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’, Donizetti’s ‘Lucia di Lammermoor’ and Johann Strauss’s ‘Fledermaus’ followed. At the Opernfestspiele 2016 she conducted the world premiere of Hauke Berheide’s opera ‘Mauerschau’.

Oksana Lyniv has worked with many orchestras; in the field of opera she has conducted performances at the Estonian National Opera, at the Lviv Theatre Of Opera and Ballet, at the Oper Bonn, the Theater Osnabrück, the Theater Bremen, the Royal Swedish Opera and at the Bayerische Staatsoper.

Concerts with the Badische Staatskapelle, the Neue Philharmonie München, the Bayerisches Landesjugendorchester, the Hamburger Symphoniker and the Odessa National Symphony Orchestra are planned for the 2016/17 season.

One important element of her work is the performance of modern music from Ukraine and the presentation of works by Ukrainian composers in the international world of music.
