Karin Freist-Wissing

Karin Freist-Wissing studied Church Music (to top ‘A’ exam level) and Orchestra Conducting at the University for Music in Detmold.

Since 1990, she has been the director of church music at the Kreuzkirche Bonn, the biggest protestant church in the Rhineland, where she directs the choral and orchestral work.

Under her musical leadership, the ensembles Kantorei, Kammerchor VOX BONA and the Symphony Orchestra became known as top ensembles in the Cologne/Bonn region, as well as nationally and internationally. This is documented in numerous musical competition prizes, CD and radio recordings, as well as concert tours in Germany and abroad.

She regularly performs large oratorios from all eras, conducts symphonic concerts and works with the chamber choir VOX BONA a-cappella at a professional level.

Her particular focus is to initiate unusual interdisciplinary projects with the arts, theatre, dance and drama. In 2011, for example, Karin Freist-Wissing conducted a performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s ’St John Passion’ as modern dance theatre. In 2014, the Jazz Opera ‘Abraham’, by Daniel Schnyder, was premiered to high acclaim as part of the düsseldorf-festival under her management.
