Asasello Quartett

The Asasello Quartet was founded in 2000 in Basel. The Quartet's interpretations are exciting and spirited, and the four young musicians aim for more than merely entertaining their audience with their conclusive programmes, always ranging from classic, romantic pieces to the modern repertoire.

Having concluded their studies in Basel with a major in chamber music, the Quartet relocated to Cologne in 2003 and continued to study with the renowned Alban Berg Quartet. Winning the first prize of the Migros Kulturporzent competition in Zurich was the starting point for further international concerts. Its tours have since taken the Quartet to Hungary, Russia, the Netherlands, and England. Their appearance at 2007 MusikTriennale festival in Cologne was followed by their debut in London's Wigmore Hall in 2007 and workshops at the Lucerne Festival Academy and the Heidelberger Frühling music festival. In 2009 the Asasello Quartet toured through Siberia with the project ‘4 Paysages – 4 Landschaften’, supported by Kunststiftung NRW and the Swiss cultural foundation Pro Helvetia. With the project ‘1:1 – Schon gehört?’ the Quartet performs its own series of concerts in Cologne and Düsseldorf, with concert programmes ranging from classical to modern pieces of music.

Highlights of the last years included the debut in Italy performing all Mozart string quartets within six concerts in Venice, the invitation to the festival ‘Junge Streichquartette 2012’ at Klaus von Bismarck-Saal (WDR) in Cologne, concerts at Kauniainen Music Festival (Finland) and Festival Culturel International de Musique Symphonique in Algiers (Algeria), concerts with Edna Stern in Villa Massimo in Rome and recently a performance at Bipod Festival in Beirut (Libanon). In summer 2014 the quartet was guest at renowned international festivals in France and Suisse, such as Saoû, Quimper and Cernier, in 2015 at the Beethovenfest in Bonn with three performances.

The projects of Asasello Quartet are supported by several foundations (RheinEnergie Stiftung Kultur, Kunststiftung NRW, Pro Helvetia) and by the Cultural Department of the city of Cologne.
