Bürger für Beethoven

“Bürger für Beethoven” is a group of citizens who promote the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, his memory, and the festival held in his honour in his native city. In 1993 they came together as a citizens’ action group in order to rescue the long tradition of the Beethoven festival in Bonn, and from 1995 to 1998 had an overwhelming success with their own “Beethoven Marathon”, a music festival that lasted several days.

No one doubts that the City of Bonn’s decision to revive the Beethovenfest as an annual international festival is due to the efforts of Bürger für Beethoven.

Since 2001, as friends and sponsors of the Beethovenfest, the “Citizens” have contributed to the broader programme in numerous ways: the “Beethoven Bonnensis” programme for schools, the organization of the Shop Window competition, the award of the Beethoven Ring, the idea of the Beethoven Trail through the city, and private invitations to the artists after the concerts.

“Bürger für Beethoven” pursues exclusively non-commercial goals. Its members work on an honorary basis.

For their commitment, “Bürger für Beethoven” was awarded the city of Bonn’s civic prize “Kultur verbindet” in the category “Everyday heroes” in 2006. You can download a copy of the certificate.
