»Bleich getragen denk ich dein« - hidden messages in Schumann's Piano Sonata in F sharp minor op. 11
A reading with music.
A Cry from the Heart
Robert Schumann, a great fan of Jean Paul, was stimulated by his works not just as a musician but also as a writer. Of particular note are »Flegeljahre«, which made a significant contribution to the Romantic musical aesthetic. Stefan Litwin combines this biography with a musical work that could not be any more Romantic: Schumann’s sonata in F sharp minor builds up to a climax creating a musical density previously unthinkable. Schumann himself described the sonata in a letter to Clara as «a single cry from the heart for you«.
