A Matter of the Heart

»Liebe, Liebe, laß mich los!«(»Love, Love, let me go!«): thus ends Goethe’s poem»Neue Liebe, neues Leben«(»New Love, New Life«<), put to music by Beethoven. Many other composers were fascinated by Goethe’s words about life and love and let themselves be inspired by him to create incomparable music. Ildikó Raimondi and Charles Spencer dedicate themselves to these compositions in their recital. Great emotions are promised by the romantic songs by Franz Schubert, as do the profound arrangements by Hugo Wolf. Beethoven’s contemporary Wenzel Johann Tomaschek was also fascinated by Goethe. Ildikó Raimondi re-published his almost forgotten Goethe Lieder in 2003.
