Portrait Peter Ruzicka II

Forum der Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland

Hanns Eisler: Six fragments of Hölderlin for vocal and piano (1943)
    Peter Ruzicka:
Eight songs based on fragments written by Friedrich Hölderlin for baritone and piano
    Peter Ruzicka:
»... UND MÖCHTET IHR AN MICH DIE HÄNDE LEGEN ...« (»... AND DO YOU WANT TO LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME ...«) Five fragments by Hölderlin for baritone and piano
Robert Schumann: »Liederkreis« Song Cycle after lyrics by Joseph von Eichendorff op. 39

»Do I hear a song resounding«

Be it in instrumental music or vocal music, Peter Ruzicka uses a few select poets as sources of inspiration: in addition to Paul Celan and Friedrich Hölderlin, to both of whom he has dedicated an opera, a recent addition to the list is Friedrich Nietzsche. The resulting nocturnal aphorisms amaze us with the expressive power of the emphatic, sweeping vocal melodies. This is contrasted with Robert Schumann’s »song cycle« based on words by Eichendorff, a brilliant connection between the purest of the Romantics in music and in poetry.
