Across the Border
Music that points beyond itself: what could a symphony three years after Beethoven’s »Eroica« sound like? Anton Eberl pro-vided an answer in E flat major, which bears not just Mozart and Beethoven’s signature but also his own. Peter Ruzicka demonstrates what a solo concerto sounds like in the 21st century: finely differentiated sound waves between motion and immobility. Gustav Mahler gently adapted Beethoven’s »Quartetto serioso« to the large concert hall, thereby creating a dramatic chamber symphony.
