Orchestration Skills
The contribution Hector Berlioz made to the development of the symphony is almost immeasurable. The combination of very different artistic genres in one style and the invention of hitherto unheard timbres did not just characterize his famous »Symphonie fantastique« but also his »Grande Symphonie« for military orchestra. The »Grande Symphonie funèbre et triomphale«, originally written for a marching band, was meant to
accompany the procession in memory of the revolution of 1830. This work is being combined with Chopin’s first piano concerto, performed by the young Finnish pianist Antti Siirala.
