Annely Peebo

began her music studies in her country of birth Estonia. After studying piano in Estonia for eleven years and conducting, she began to study with Professor Gerhard Kahry and graduated from the Song and Opera class at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Annely Peebo speaks five languages and is an accomplished conductor. 

Newspapers in Salzburg praised the appearance of the Estonian mezzo-soprano Annely Peebo in the “Grosses Festspielhaus” in Salzburg in Dvorak’s Stabat mater: “A marvellously velvety timbre matched with the face of a Madonna." And "A technically superb voice."

She have sang in Opera houses like Teatro La Scala in Milan, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Teatro Reggio di Torino, Finnish National Opera, just to mention a few. At the Wiener Staatsoper/ Volksoper and many other important houses she was able to develope a wide-ranging repertoire including roles such as  Cenerentola, Rosina, Dorabella, Donna Elvira, Cherubino, Sextus, Idamante, Hänsel, Carmen, Marquise Melibea, Octavian, Boccaccio, Henry, Niklaus, Komponist, Medoro, Dido, Hermia, Maddalena, Orlofsky ect…

The versatile artist has worked with numerous well-known directors such as Franco Zeffirelli in La Traviata (video available on request) in Busseto, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia, Ferrara and Parma, with Giorgio Strehler in his last production (Cosi fan tutte) at the Piccolo Teatro Milano (also shown in Lissabon, Ravenna, Reggio Emilia), Robert Carsen in Händel’s Orlando in Ravenna and Reggio Emilia, Dario Fo in Il viaggio a Reims at the Finnish national opera in Helsinki, Michael Hampe in Cosi fan tutte in Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova and  in The Magic Flute at the Megaron Moussikis in Athens,  Stephane Braunschweig in Jenufa at the La Scala, William Kentridge in Zauberflöte and with Philippe Arlaud in a new production of Cosi fan tutte at the Opéra de Nancy, which was also performed in Caen, Lyon and in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Niklaus at the Savonlinna Festival in Offenbach’s  Le Contes d'Hoffmann (director: G. Horres). Annely Peebo was seen in a Cenerentola production at the festival in Aix-en-Provence as well as at the world premiere of the opera Penthesilea (Ofenbauer) in the Viennese Festival and as well as on tour in Japan.

Annely Peebo is also a very sought-after baroque and recital singer. She have sang concerts and recitals in Wien, Cagliari, Trieste, Rome, Florence, Torino(With Rai-orchestra), Paris, Madrid, Bonn, Bamberg, München, Stuttgart, Helsinki, Stockholm, Tallinn ect.. Performed several times in the Philharmonic Concert Hall of Berlin and Munich, Tallinn, Stockholm, Riga, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, at the Wiener Musikverein, at the Beethovenhalle Bonn, Liederhalle Stuttgart, the Wiener Konzerthaus as well as at the Salzburger, Bregenzer and Schubertiader festivals among others. Her extensive concert repertoire covers the most important works of Bach, Händel, Telemann, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Dvorak, Rossini, Schubert, Schumann, Bruckner, Berlioz, Brahms, Mahler, Sostakovic, R. Strauss, Schönberg, Verdi, Ravel ect. She has worked closely with distinguished conductors such as Georges Pretre, Frühbeck de Burgos, Claudio Abbado, Placido Domingo, Sir Neville Marriner, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Russel Davies, Manfred Honeck, Ulf Schirmer, Ton Koopman, Manfred Honeck, Michael Gielen, Christopher Hogwood, Stefan Soltesz, Fabio Luisi, B. de Billy, Ottavio Dantone ect.

In winter 2006 sang she with Juan Diego Florez and Grace Bumbry in „ Christmas in Vienna“ (DVD available). In autumn 2003 Annely Peebo sang Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the pontificate of John Paul II at the Vatican. The year before she represented her home country Estonia in front of a multi-billion audience by hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in Tallinn. Likewise in Tallinn she performed with Andrea Bocelli at an open air concert in the summer 2003. She was the leading lady in an award-winning international music film (Les lecons de tenebres) in a co production with France 3 and Arte.
