Pascal Amoyel
Pascal Amoyel, who was chosen “Révélation Soliste Instrumental” by the audience and musical press at the Victoires de la Musique 2005 in France, has been one of the most outstanding musical figures in France for some years now.
His meeting at a young age with György Cziffra, under whom he studied for several years in France and Hungary, was formative. He studied at the École Normale de Musique in Paris and was awarded first prize at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris for piano (Jacques Rouvier and Pascal Devoyon’s class) and chamber music. He is a laureate of the Menuhin and Cziffra Foundations and won the first prize at the International Competition for Young Pianists in Paris. He attended master classes given by Lazar Berman, Aldo Ciccolini, Pierre Sancan, Charles Rosen and others. He has performed in Europe, the United States, Canada, Russia and Japan, including with orchestras from Paris, Lille, Montpellier, Pays de la Loire and Île-de-France, the chamber music orchestras from Auvergne and Pays de la Savoie, the Bulgarian National Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra.
Pascal Amoyel is particularly attracted to music with a mystical background, hence also his admiration for works by Bloch, Liszt, Scriabin, Alkan and Oliver Greif. He has also done pioneering work on developing new concert forms and has worked with actors such as Jean Piat, Jean-Claude Brialy, Brigitte Fossey, Robin Renucci and Marie-Christine Barrault. His duo recordings with Emmanuelle Bertrand and his solo recordings (Calliope: Nocturnes by Chopin, Poèmes by Scriabin, Harmonies Poétiques et Religieuses by Liszt, etc) have received top awards.
Pascal Amoyel was awarded the Premier Grand Prix “Arts-Deux Magots” to honour him as “a musician who stands out through openness and open-mindedness”. He is Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
