Claudia Barainsky
Claudia Barainsky is widely regarded as one of the most versatile of today's sopranos. She studied voice at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Ingrid Figur, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Aribert Reimann.
In 1994 she made her debut in the title role of Reimann's "Melusine" at the Dresden State Opera. A worldwide career followed, with performances at the most famous opera houses in Germany, in Amsterdam, Brussels and Tokio as well as the Bayreuth Festival where she debuted as one of the Blumenmädchen / "Parsifal" and Waldvogel / "Siegfried".
Her diverse repertoire includes pieces from all eras of opera and musical theatre: Claudia Barainsky has played the title role in Reinhard Keiser's "Die römische Unruhe oder die edelmütige Octavia", Sophie in "Der Rosenkavalier" , Musetta in "Boheme", Königin der Nacht and Pamina in "Die Zauberflöte", Cleofide in Hasses "Cleofide", Badi'at el-Hosn wal Dschamal in Henze's "L'Upupa" and Lulu in Berg's "Lulu".
Lately Claudia Barainsky has been particulary involved in new music projects. She is regarded as the foremost interpreter of the role of Marie in Bernd Alois Zimmermann's "Die Soldaten" which she performed at the Ruhrtriennale, at the Lincoln Center Festival New York and at Amsterdam. For her performance in this production, which was recorded for DVD, Claudia Barainsky was awarded different prizes. She was also highly acclaimed for her representation of Medea in Aribert Reimann's new opera "Medea" at Oper Frankfurt / Main.
Alongside opera, Claudia Barainsky is a devoted recitalist and concert singer. Mozart's concert arias, soprano arias from the great oratorios and the great Orchesterlieder are as equally in her repertoire as contemporary music. She has been noted also for her inspired programming for her own recitals, which are always a special event.
Among her musical partners are some of the most internationally distinguished orchestras and conductors. Likewise, Claudia Barainsky is a regular guest at the international festivals such as Salzburg Festival, Lincoln Center Festical, Aldeburgh Music Festival, Ruhrtriennale, Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival.
