Climbing the Peak, Part IV

Beethoven’s Eighth is, for Järvi, »new music« because here »Beethoven simply took what everyone knew and put it into a different light, took everything apart and turned everything upside down in such a way as if he were almost making fun of the traditional symphonic form.« With the Ninth Symphony Beethoven reached the peak. After it nothing in the history of this genre remained the way it was. According to Järvi it contains more than the humanist message: »There must be another level because this sentimental message would not be characteristic of Beethoven.« Together with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen Järvi will go in search of this other level.
